Adhikaar: Legal literacy and access to rights for women and children

Adhikaar translated laws into information women and children could use. Its "Know Your Laws, Ask for Your Rights" campaign took clear explanations into public places, schools and everyday communication channels, backed by free legal counselling at the Prakoshth headquarters.

  • More than 50 public information standees
  • SMS, Braille and printed information
  • About 200,000 women and children reached
About 200,000 peoplewomen and children reached through several channels.

The challenge

Rights have limited practical value when women and children do not know what the law provides or where to seek help. Adhikaar used accessible public information to reduce that knowledge gap.

The response

The "Know Your Laws, Ask for Your Rights" campaign placed more than 50 information standees in public places, educational institutions and offices. Handbills, posters and booklets explained legal provisions on domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment, acid attacks, stalking, human trafficking and other offences. The Prakoshth also provided online FAQs and free legal counselling at its headquarters.
