Shodh evam Samwaad: Research and evidence for women's and children's safety
Shodh evam Samwaad brought research, community feedback and legal review into the Prakoshth's work. It connected crime mapping and studies of public safety to programme design, policy advice and district-level follow-up on complaints.
- Crime mapping and community perception exercises
- Research partnerships and programme learning
- Legal review of district reports before complaint closure
The challenge
Public programmes need evidence about where risks arise, what communities experience and how institutions respond. Shodh evam Samwaad brought research, consultation and policy feedback into the Prakoshth’s work.
The response
The Prakoshth pursued partnerships with researchers, universities and civil-society organisations for crime mapping and studies of risks affecting women and children. It used perception exercises to inform the nine-programme package, contributed to research on sexual victimisation in Lucknow public transport and to a UNICEF document on schemes for women and girls in Uttar Pradesh.
Using evidence
The programme fed back to government on the classification of offences and victim compensation, ran impact analyses linked to Navchetna and Ru-ba-ru, and gathered data from all 75 districts on acid-attack victims to support a Women and Child Development compensation initiative. Preliminary crime mapping was initiated.
The programme also connected research with case-level accountability. The Prakoshth sought inquiries and Action Taken Reports from district police, legally vetted reports at headquarters and provided legal guidance before complaints were closed.
